A compelling Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Tesseron family — the same family behind Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac. Pym-Rae is grown on volcanic soils high on the slopes of Mount Veeder, where the altitude and poor soils produce wines of unusual structure and restraint for California. The 2017 vintage was marked by the devastating North Bay fires, yet the wines that survived produced some extraordinary fruit. Dark cassis, mountain herbs, graphite, and a distinctive volcanic minerality define this wine. The tannins are firm but fine-grained, more Pauillac than Napa in their texture. This is a serious collector's wine with decades of ageing potential. Decant for 2 hours if drinking now. Serve at 16-18°C. Pairs beautifully with prime rib, lamb saddle, or aged Gruyère.
